2011 E. Urner Goodman Camping Award Recipients Announced

The E. Urner Goodman Award was established in 1969 as a tribute and testimonial to the Order’s founder.  Its purpose is to encourage and challenge Order of the Arrow members and lodges to increase their effectiveness in promoting and increasing Scout camping in each council.  Awards are presented to two outstanding lodges in each Region annually.

The Southern Region would like to congratulate the following lodges for being recognized for their 2011 accomplishments:

2011 National Service Award Recipients Announced

We are pleased to announce the selection of two lodges from the Southern Region that have been selected to receive the National Service Award. Established in 1999, the National Service Award recognizes up to two lodges in each Region that have performed outstanding qualitative and quantitative service for their council. The following lodges are being recognized for their 2011 accomplishments.

Get to Know our Region Chief

David JoynerDavid Joyner, 18, is serving the as the 2012 Southern Region Chief. He becomes the 20th Arrowman to serve in this position since it was created in 1993.

Hailing from Mount Olive, NC, David is an Eagle Scout in Troop 10 of Tuscarora Council #424. Aside from being active in his unit, he has served on his council’s summer camp staff for three summers.

As a member of the Order of the Arrow, David has been recognized with the Vigil Honor from Nayawin Rar lodge. Throughout his OA career, he has held numerous lodge offices and has most notably served as section chief of section 7B.

When asked about becoming region chief, David responded:

“I am both honored and excited to be elected as the 2012 Southern Region Chief. This year will be filled with opportunities for our Arrowmen such as OAHA and NLS. Most importantly, we will come together at Michigan State for NOAC and see brotherhood at its best as we realize that United, We Leave A Legacy. I look forward to the coming year and am ready to get started on the work ahead!”
